BIOMAS AS OPPORTUNITY
SUMMARY ( UNIT 2 )
Energy
consumption is a yardstick for a country’s development. In Thailand it is very high
and linked with economic growth. Furth more, some 60 % of the employed
population receive their income directly or indirectly from agriculture or the
agro-industry. Thailand needs to seriously look at a
risk on the impact of climate change with improved ability and capacity to cope
with its effects. One example of more efficient
resource management in the Agro-industry is palm oil production.
Which had
selected the palm oil sector as a pilot industry for promoting efficient energy
use in agro industry. The goal was to realize a very promising idea namely, to
cease the disposal of the waste water from CPI palm oil production using a
conventional arragment of open waste water pools and instead implement a closed
system that would enable the resulting biogas to be used as a source of energy.
Energy
is a prime mover of economic growth, and this is definitely true. In
particular, Thailand has put in place multi faceted policy packages which put
country at forefront of bio energy
development for both power and head
generations, liquid transportation fuel
and biogas from wastes and co-products from agro industry.
